White oak is a hardwood, traditionally used in building ships, wagons, whiskey barrels, and railroad ties. While popular in flooring, millwork, and cabinets it is also well suited for outdoor use. White oak is beloved for its versality, durability, workability, and has a Janka rating of 1,360. One of the heaviest species of wood in the world, white oak weighs 47lbs per cubic foot.
Why do we prefer square posts over round? A few reasons. First, square posts offer more surface area for attaching the rails. Second, square posts are easier to stack and store. Third, the capabilities of our go-to, family owned sawmills allow for better use of the logs with square posts. White Oak posts have an average lifespan of 25 years in ground.
These 4x4x8 white oak posts are stocked for fencing and so we bevel one end. This usually happens pretty quickly after getting them from the sawmill as we sticker the lumber for storage. If you do not want your posts beveled please make note of that when placing your order.
Due to shipping constraints we have a minimum order of $500. Local customers are able to purchase any quantity and pick up in Plato. We are open Monday-Thursday, 7am-5:30pm or via appointment.
