White Oak is a hardwood, native to North America. The lumber has been traditionally used in building ships, wagons, whiskey barrels, railroad ties, and the iconic Kentucky board fences. White oak is beloved for its versality, durability, workability, and natural No Chew qualities.
We work with several family owned sawmills sourcing white oak. Once it is in our possession we sort and sticker to check for quality and facilitate drying. The 4x4x8 fence posts are beveled on one end which aids in the posts longevity.
Why do we prefer square posts over round? A few reasons. First, square posts offer more surface area for attaching the rails. Second, square posts are easier to stack and store. Third, the capabilities of our go-to, family owned sawmills allow for better use of the logs with square posts. White Oak posts have an average lifespan of 25 years.
One thing that really sets our White Oak Fencing Material Packages apart is that we square and pre-drill each rail for before shipping to you. This cuts the in field work down by half. Our rails are 1x6x8, which is perfect for the suggested 8’ post spacing. We prefer to utilize 8’ boards for rails as they are easier to handle, ship, and store. An 8’ board is still over 20lbs in weight. (Compare that to a pine board!) We also include 3” exterior washer head screws with the package.
Due to shipping constraints we have a minimum order of $500. Local customers are able to purchase any quantity and pick up in Plato. We are open Monday-Thursday, 7am-5:30pm or via appointment.
