Why do we prefer 4"x4"x8' square posts over round? Square posts offer more surface area for attaching the rails. Also, square posts are easier to stack and store. A 4"x4"x8' white oak fence post is 60lbs. We bevel the tops of the square fence posts to allow for rain, snow, and other moisture to move vs sit on the post. This also looks very nice.
